Reporting from the Flybridge
Waking up on the Trojan Tri Cabin in the morning there is always a stillness
in the water, especially during the dog days of summer. Early mornings can
be very quite, the only life on the docks are some ducks that visited the
back of my swim platform. I love ducks, but what they leave behind is just
one more thing I will have to clean up later today. Early mornings are always
my favorite time of the day, I can go jogging and not die of heat stroke,
and it usually is quite enough that I can get a lot of work done rather quickly.
Yes, these docks are peaceful and represent a lot of why I like being on boats
so much.
Fortunately with today's technology, I can work just about anywhere. Now I
have our custom television travel editor right on the boat. It is a wonderful
feeling to be able to shoot a show, come back to the Trojan and start editing.
The new two disk JBO 2004 DVD was edited, authored, and mastered, right on
the boat. Once finished, we sent the master DVD's to California for distribution.
In case anyone is wondering, yes, being able to edit our show on a boat is
an incredible inspiration. Truly it is my favorite place to edit.
For example. During work on our year end DVD, my buddy Barnacle Bill was swapping
out his transmission on his Pursuit. (docked next to me in Hampton). I told
Captain Bill that I would be in the Trojan Salon mastering our new DVD, if
he needed anything, just knock on the boat and I would come out and help.
So while I was in the middle of some complicated edits, I would set the system
to auto compile, and I would be helping Bill with his transmission job. True
multitasking!!! Our diver showed up, cleaned the bottom of our boats, got
the transmission to the shop, cleaned the swim platform, and all the while
our 2004 DVD was churning away downstairs in the Salon of the Trojan.
So when we say that we work and breath the outdoors, we really mean it. Everything
we do is on the water, including mastering our television shows. We have even
started setting out crab pots off of the Trojan for some weekend crabmeat.
Some of you may not know, but the Hampton River is just full of crabs. Love
um!!!
Things have changed a lot in our business over the last 18 years. One thing
that I have realized is that now I can take my studio with me where ever I
go. This means one thing. I can work 24 hours a day. Well, this is what usually
happens, however I am now announcing that I am taking a break. It may only
be for a weekend, but I want all of the readers of the Sportsman's magazine
to join me for a weekend of fun and relaxation this September 10-12 at Hampton
Bay Days.
Bay Days is a huge three-day event that fills the downtown Hampton area with
hundreds of exhibitors, vendors, concerts, and all sorts of activities for
the children. Bay days will also sport some of the most creative boat decorations
you will ever see. The Saturday night fireworks show is still the best I have
ever seen. I highly recommended booking your hotel reservations now for this
event. The Hampton Public Piers also has just completed their new dock and
pier installations. Beautiful new facility that is located right next to the
Cousteau Society. Contact info for the Hampton Public Piers is : Dockmaster
Reany Martin 757 727 1276. The Radisson Hotel 757 727 9700.
Fishing has been red hot. The Spadefish bite has once again picked back up
at the CLT, huge Flounder are being caught off of the CBBT. Largest fish have
been caught on long strips of fresh cut bait. Offshore Tuna bite was good,
slowed some. Hopefully late August it will turn red again.
Tight Lines,
See everyone at Bay Days!!
