A word from Jim

JBP, Inc has been producing television programming since early 1989. The JBP studio has changed quite a bit since the early days of 3\4 inch SP editing decks. Our fist edit facility we designed was not much more than a couple of 3\4 decks and a cuts only editor. Not only was that all we could afford, there was not much else that was available that we could build, without selling our homes.

Things have changed a lot since 1989. CD burners have dropped from $6000.00 to $50 bucks, cameras can now record not only to digital media, but to hard drives, and we have even seen the demise of the tried and true, photo film camera. Everything is now digital .Our first graphics computer (still works by the way, now a deditcated MIDI station) was an Amiga 2000 with 16 megs of ram and 120 meg SCSI hard drive. Now an off the shelf $50.00 thump\flash drive from any computer store has more storage than our first $5000.00 Amiga computer. Even our company cell phone has 112 megs of ram over and above that of our first broadcast graphics computer.Things have changed quite a bit in our industry since 1989.

Today, our two main non linear editors have unlimited hard drive space, and are both running 2 gigs of ram with 4 gig page files. So, how does a production company deal with these massive changes? Well, many do not. The key to JBP survival is simply that we produce top shelf products at very reasonable cost, and stay on or above the technology curve. This does take time and a lot of research to figure out as a company, what will be the best direction in production that will best serve our clients in the future.

There are quite a few things that our company has done to better serve our clients production needs.Starting in January of 2004, JBP will have mobilized the entire Midlothian VA main edit facility. All production from editing to DVD authoring can now be done at any location. Within minutes our mobile edit facility can be up and running anywhere on land or at sea.. Mobile production includes DVD Authoring and Mastering, DV Editing, Desk Top Publishing, and Audio Sweetening.

I would like to thank all of our production clients that have kept us busy over the years. Now is the most exciting time in our production companies history. With the technology JBP has today, there simply is not anything that we can not produce anywhere, anytime. The days of "gee if we only has this piece of gear" are now gone. JBP has taken full advantage of the digital revolution and will continue lead and pioneer new advances in digital media production.
