ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE TEST
The following test were taken with the Pursuit fully rigged, fueled, and ready for offshore.
These test were performed on Jim Baugh Outdoors show boat, a 2800 Pursuit express fisherman. This vessel is not striped by any means. Boat gear included: 15 rods, 200 gallons of fuel, three people, six man life raft, full Marlin tower WITH canvas, iced fish boxes, and an oblative Micron bottom paint.
* Instruments used in the following test were: A new digital fuel flow meter- Navman 2100 and the sound meter was a new db level meter by Radio Shack
* DB volume measurement were taken at the lower helm station, about 5 1\2 feet away from the twin engines.
* Vessel weight-approx 8000 pounds (Hull, engines, tower, etc.) Full tank of gas add 1800 pounds Total 9800 pounds without passengers.
****ALL OF THESE NUMBERS ARE FOR A TWIN ENGINE SET UP, NOT SINGLE.

We found the Suzuki 250 HP four strokes to be the smoothest engines we have ever run. The numbers are
similar to that of the test with the 225's, however where we see the biggest difference is in our cruising speed
and trolling speeds. Cruising at 32 mph we are only burning 18 gallons per hour, and the sound level running
both engines is 4db less than my normal speaking voice. Trolling numbers are excellent as well. Only burning a gallon to
a gallon and a half per hour. The power is unreal o these engines. The hole shot for the Pursuit, LOA 31 feet, was about two seconds.
These are the engines we will be running for Jim Baugh Outdoors TV. The boat is docked in downtown Hampton
Feel free to contact us if you would like to see how we rigged the boat with the twin 250's, they are just awesome!!!

What do these numbers really mean? -you better be sitting down!!
Sound
To begin with we took a DB volume measurement of my natural speaking voice and the measurement was 91db.
We then measured the volume level with BOTH SUZUKI FOUR STROKE'S RUNNING at idle. The measurement was
only 80db!!
BOTH engines running are 11 db more quite than a human voice. This evident when so many people are talking to me at the dock, see the water coming out of the exhaust on the engines and ask, "Jim are your engines running? I can't hear them"
Imagine trolling all day for Rockfish and you never have to raise your voice to talk.
Hole Shot
The twin 140's pushing our Pursuit is a good testament to how powerful these four strokes really are. Our show boat is rated for 450hp and we are currently running only 280hp. That is 170hp below what the boat is rated for. The twin Suzuki 140's put the Pursuit on a full plane in only about 10 seconds.
Cruising Speed
Our show boat currently has a comfortable cruising speed of 24-27kt. This speed is pushing the 140's around 5100rpm. Once we put the larger twin Suzuki 225's on the boat, our "guestimation" is that we will cruise around 4200-4300rpm.
NOTE: We expect that our fuel economy will improve even more with the larger engines simply because we will not have to run at high rpm's. One thing that a fuel flow meter will tell you is that the more throttle the greater fuel consumption. Installing maximum HP on a boat and running her easy is the best way to get maximum fuel economy and life out of an engine.
Fuel Economy
Fishing out of Hampton VA or anywhere in the lower Chesapeake Bay an offshore trip can easily take you out 50 to 70 miles. The following are the figures for running our Pursuit out to the Fingers for a day of offshore fishing. (the fingers are a popular offshore hot spot offshore the mid-Atlantic.
----------------------
Distance from Hampton to the fingers: 66 miles (132 miles there and back) 2.5 hr boat ride each way -good sea conditions
Fuel allocated for trolling (10 gallons)
Cruising speed and fuel: 25kt at 18 gallons per hr totals 45 gallons of fuel each way
Approximate fuel total for one day of offshore fishing to the fingers is around 100 gallons of fuel. (Including trolling)

Overall Performance
When we first discussed with Suzuki putting on the 140's before installing the 225's, we were clear on the fact that we did not know how the boat would perform. Without question by the two stroke standard, this boat would be underpowered. Quite frankly we have all been amazed at how well the show boat performs with these Suzuki 140's.
In offshore fishing mid range performance and hole shot has always been what I have looked for in an outboard engine. Certainly the way the Suzuki four strokes have performed pushing our Pursuit is testament to how powerful the engines are. It is also hard to complain about top end speed when our rig fully loaded and underpowered by 170hp still will top end at 34kt!
****When we surveyed the Pursuit it had twin 225 Evinrudes, the top end speed was 36kt, only two kt faster than the boat rigged with Suzuki 140hp four strokes!!!
When we ran the boat with twin Evenrude 225's, the Pursuit did NOT have the Marlin tower, canvas, and all the rigging that now has been done to the boat. There was also only about 30 gallons of fuel in the Pursuit when we surveyed her with the 225 Evenrudes. In reality if we were able to run the boat striped with the twin 140 Suzuki's, the boat would have easily surpased the top end performance of the 225 Evenrudes.
Keep in mind that the more throttle applied to engines, the more gas engines are going to burn. This holds true with just about any engine. Once we rig out with the larger 225's we can drop our RPM's for cruising and obtain even greater fuel efficiency.
