A record day of Rockfishing!!! Jim Baugh Outdoors hooked up with Hampton VA Captain Chandler Hogg on board the Smoking Gun for an action packed three hours of Rockfishing. The boat limited out and also released a lot of fish. Most Rockfish were in the 30 to 40 inch class HOWEVER we did manage one monster Rockfish caught by John Masters. The Rock weighed in at 49 pounds 4 ounces, was 51 inches long and had a 30 inch girth. The fish hit on a Stretch 35 with modified hooks, color was chartreuse with a green back, one of the areas most productive lures.

This trophy Rock is a lifetime catch, congrats to John and Captain Hogg for a fine charter. Jim Baugh Outdoors will feature this trip in it's 2004 series of programs and will also be on the year end double DVD.

First mate Tory Firman did a masterful job at keeping all the lines straight for the day, and he also re rigged the Stretches with number 5 Mustad hooks. The trophy fish still pulled off one hook, and bent one other straight.

Jim Baugh Outdoors has featured Rockfishing more than any other programs produced. Since the 15 years of producing shows, this almost 50 pound Rockfish is the largest Rockfish we have been able to photograph. Once the show is finished in post production, we will make it available to stream here on the JBO web site.

Some history about the pic for this web page link.

This picture was circulated on the Internet as an historic picture of a giant Rockfish.

While it is true that Rockfish do get as large as 100 pounds, it is unclear as to how large this Rockfish actually was.

We have used the latest in state of the art computer photographic technology and have made the clear decision that the pic is a fake. We have no idea who created this picture, however it's rustic "striper" charm warrants a view.

If anyone can provide evidence that the pic is real, please forward the info to our e-mail address.
