TITLE: 2009 marks Jim Baugh Outdoors TV
20th year of broadcasting
From the Canyon to the Keys, JBO TV will be burning up fuel both offshore
and on Interstate 95 southbound. Thank the Lord gas prices have come down!!
January is always sort of a crazy month for me. Starting off the month recovering
from New Years is always a bit of a challenge. The one thing that gets me
going though is the ride out to the Canyon area for monster Sea Bass. This
month we will try again to head out with Captain Jim Brincfield, or any of
the other Sea Bass masters- like just about everyone at Long Bay Point. Steve
defiantly can put some fish in the boat for sure, we always enjoy heading
out with them.
I do recommend going on a charter for offshore Sea Bass fishing, it just makes
it easy and a lot more fun. The captains also have numbers for wrecks that
just are not published. Every trip we go on we load up the boat with fish,
and January is the time you want to go. Those Sea Bass seem to hit just about
anything, squid, mackerel, and believe it or not, even chicken bones! If you
want to limit out on some nice fish and a great experience for your family
and friends, plan now, this month to do some offshore Sea Bassin. We try to
produce a show every year featuring this great offshore fishery.
Jim Baugh Outdoors TV is now celebrating it’s
20th year in television. Hard for me to believe that time
has gone by so fast. We started out in 1989 primarily featuring fresh water
programming and worked with many local fishing guides throughout the state.
This is something that we still try to do, that is to feature captains who
are experts in their field and enjoy sharing their knowledge with our viewers.
JBO TV has grown quite a bit since 1989. We started off broadcasting on the
local FOX affiliate in Richmond Virginia, then syndicated throughout the state,
and then went National on the Family Channel. Since then our primary broadcast
has been on the Outdoor Channel, and now the Sportsman Channel and Direct
TV.
We started broadcasting 52 weeks a year for about the first 10 years, then
realized that was a waste of our efforts. Sponsors wanted key times of the
year to advertise, not year round. So, second quarter of each year is when
we air, and our shows are also posted on our web site all year 24\7. We had
over 80,000 people stream our shows last year alone.
Things have changed so much in twenty years, I never thought I would ever
be able to sit on a beach and edit our TV Show, but that is what you can do
with today’s technology. My first ten years in this buiz, I was locked in
a dark enclosed studio\edit suite for days just trying to edit one show. Now,
I can edit anywhere, anytime, and post updates live on our web site from any
location. Never did I think I would live to see this much change in production
and technology. It has been a wild ride.
I was ask the other day by a writer what was the best part of producing an
outdoor TV show for such a long time. He was surprised by my answer. It is
not the fishing, the boats, or even our prized show car. The greatest thing
about what I do is the people I get to meet. I have met so many people, and
have so many close friends that I would of never of met had it not been for
Jim Baugh Outdoors TV. That is the best part. The people.
Unfortunately during the last 20 years, a lot of my good friends who I have
met through the show, have passed. I have been very grateful for the time
I have had with them all, and hope to see again one day-not to soon I hope,
they can wait, I need to catch more fish first!
My son and daughter are 22 and 19 years old now. They have only ever known
dad as “TV Guy”. But I do remember the early years of performing close up
magic, and also playing keyboards for a progressive rock group Ukiah. It has
been an interesting road that has led me here today. I am blessed with two
healthy and awesome kids. I miss having them on the show, but with both in
college, their time is limited.
So, what will the next 20 years bring? My goal has always been to produce
the best and most entertaining outdoor show ever produced. That is still the
goal, each year we get better, and do our best to improve all aspects of JBO
media.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the last 20 years,
and especially Hampton CVB and Suzuki Marine
for hanging in so long with us. They are great sponsors who
both happen to represent products that I truly believe in, and they are the
best at what they do. I am lucky to have them. Thanks guys!
Next month, it’s back to the Miami International Boat Show, and filming in
Key West for some Yellow Tail.
Tight lines, and we will see ya on the water in Hampton! The Rock bite is
on! Keep your radar and GPS tuned to three miles!
